This is not the first time that researchers have found elevated cancer risks in women who work the night shift.  However, this study gives specifics about the number of shifts that would increase risk. Here are some articles that talk about it in more detail.

Study: Breast cancer risk for night shift workers increased by 40

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has commissioned research into reported links between working night shifts and breast cancer in women in an attempt to establish whether working at night increases the risk of chronic

This study presents a huge challenge to the number of women who work nights. Many of these women work nights in order to save baby sitting expenses. Nurses who work nights get paid three to six dollars more per hour. The study suggests that women limit the amount of time they work nights per week and that would be one way of minimizing risks. Many women just cannot afford to stop working nights.

Some researchers believe that low melatonin levels could well be the cause. Men who work night shift could also face the same risk. Some scientist believe that the night hormone melatonin can protect against certain cancers. The cause of cancer is a combination of many factors and this could be just one of them.

Omega-3 fatty acids for Health

Essential fatty acids are  essential for health.  Our bodies cannot make them, therefore we need to consume  them in the diet.  The health benefits found in  the omega fatty acids have been well documented.  Without a good supply, many  important systems of the body would deteriorate.  The essential fatty fatty acids are built  from three other acids in the diet  linolenic acid. linoleic acid and oleic acid.   The  Omega  fatty acids are then built from them they are:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids are  derived from linolenic acid
  • Omega-6 fatty acids are made  from linoleic acid
  • Omega-9 fats  come  from oleic acid
  • All the fatty acids are deemed essential.  However the problem arises when there is an overabundance of Omega-6 over omega 3.  When such imbalance occurs, the  blood   can become more sticky and a buildup of cholesterol  and triglycerides  occurs. When that happens  the arteries can become very narrow.  The narrower blood vessels become the more the heart  becomes stressed. This situation  could cause heart attack or stroke. A Vitamin D deficiency could also create major problems, because omega 3 and vitamin d work together work  to prevent buildup in the arteries of the heart

Omega 3- works very well in decreasing triglycerides and cholesterol.  Thereby causing less buildup on the walls of the arteries.  The omega 3 can  also thin the blood making it less sticky and thereby reducing the risk of clots.  The  fatty acids and omega 3 in particular can be obtained from many foods in the diet.  Wild salmon, sardines,  flax seed , walnuts, eggs and pumpkin seeds to name a few.

Fish  is an excellent source of the omega fatty acids but  obtaining optimum  amount  in the diet can be difficult at times. It that case health care professionals recommend taking a good fish oil capsule if food sources are inadequate.  Finding  a good fish oil capsule can be challenging.  Try to take a brand that has been tested and guaranteed.  Find reliable source of  Omega  3 supplement at an incredible price

Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms

Causes for Vitamin D Deficiency

  • There could insufficient intake of the vitamin in the diet
  • Exposure to sunlight is limited
  • The kidneys cannot convert Vitamin D to its active form for absorption
  • The body may b experiencing difficulty absorbing the Vitamin D that is being ingested
  • The amount that is taken in could be lower than what the body requires

Low Vitamin D symptoms  in adults can  be manifested by fatigue, muscle pain and weakness. Persons who are older are at greater risk for this deficiency.   The skin is less able to synthesize Vitamin D efficiently as we age and the Kidney is less able to convert it to its active form.  This deficiency can result in soft  bones called osteomalacia. More than 25 million adults have or are at risk of developing osteoporosis or porous bones.  Although this  condition is  usually associated with lack of calcium,  lack of Vitamin D contributes to poor calcium absorption. Low Vitamin D  in children can show up as rickets Other  It should be noted that persons who suffer from renal problems,  or Chron’s disease would have Vitamin D deficiency because of poor absorption.

Vitamin D deficiency  is becoming a risk factor for heart disease.  Several studies have shown that persons with low vitamin D were more likely to have a stroke or suffer a heart attack.   These days people are spending more time indoors and use  suntan protection  to prevent sun exposure.  Scientists believe that those practices  have led to  a rise in this problem.   Researchers believe that persons at risk should be tested.  They include breast infants, older adults, people with dark skin, people with fat malabsorption, those who are obese and have undergone gastric bypass

Normal levels of Vitamin D is considered above 50 nmol /L Very few foods in nature contain D.   There are some foods on the market that are fortified to provide some coverage.  Vitamin D deficiency treatment can also be accomplished with the use of supplements. There are several good choices on the market. They vary according to dosage.  The supplements are sold as capsules, tablets or drops. It is a good idea to check with your doctor  to know what dose is right for you.  The company  listed below is well known for high quality and good value  supplements.
